Data Track launches new Enhanced 999 solution to ensure organisations with IP PBXs pass location information to the emergency services.

ConneXon and Data Track launch BT 999 Emergency Routing Service for PBXs

ConneXon, a leading provider of emergency calling solutions for IP telephony in North America, today announced that its E999 Emergency Routing Service (ERS) is being distributed in the UK by Data Track Technology plc following successful compliance testing with BT's 999 call handling service.

"Enhanced 999 solutions such as ConneXon's Emergency Routing Service and Emergency Gateway appliance mean that enterprises deploying IP telephony solutions can meet their 999 calling obligations," said John Owen, Director, Data Track Technology. "Data Track is delighted to be working with ConneXon to distribute E999 in the UK."

The ERS enhances BT's 999 service by presenting to the BT operator precise and accurate location information for 999 calls originating from extension phones on enterprise IP-PBX networks. Without the ERS the location information presented to the 999 operator would be inaccurate and unreliable and could result in delays in the response of the emergency services.

The ERS ensures that organizations with IP-PBXs:

  1. address liability concerns regarding employee safety;
  2. comply with Health & Safety legislation to minimise risks; and
  3. meet the requirements of proposed changes in Ofcom's rules for 999 caller location identification.

The ERS operates in conjunction with ConneXon's E999 Emergency Gateway (EGW) appliance which discovers and tracks telephones on an organization's IP-PBX network. The EGW is an on-site appliance that is certified by leading PBX vendors such as Cisco, Avaya and Microsoft.

Usually co-located with enterprise IP-PBX phone systems, the EGW automatically assigns locations to IP phones, soft-phones, and wireless phones as they move on the enterprise network. It also includes the industry's most comprehensive suite of on-site security notification capabilities, provides call recording features and supports off-campus workers.
