Discrete alarm points or contact closures are the simplest kind of alarm input, so they're often used as a kind of lowest-common-denominator means of getting alarm from any kind of equipment.
Our intelligent Tracker platform is capable of connecting to any device that provides contact closures that are either OPEN or CLOSED. Examples of equipment to use discrete alarms are UPS's, routers, legacy switches, doors, fire systems and intrusion systems, etc.
Depending on the device, this could represent a state of ON/OFF or TRUE/FALSE. The status of the contacts is processed by the Tracker and an alarm is sent when predetermined conditions are met. Conditions can include time of day, day of week, frequency, duration etc. The Tracker can act as a mediator, turning discrete alarms into SNMP traps before sending them on.
This functionality can be used by an operations centre to determine if, at a remote location, an equipment room/cabinet door has been opened, or an intrusion or fire system has been activated. The platform gives you the capability to monitor equipment being maintained and alert you to any potential problems quickly and efficiently.
A more efficient service enables tighter SLA targets to be met with ease, increasing potential revenue and reducing service costs. The platform can act as the base for the creation of additional value added services centred around monitoring the equipment environment.
