Many data and telecommunications devices use SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) to manage alarms from local or remotely located equipment. Consequently, many organisations have standardised on an SNMP management platform for monitoring equipment across IP networks.
There is however, a vast amount of equipment in the field that needs to be managed and which does not use this protocol.
Our Eclipse Alarm Management Conversion (AMC) package has been designed to receive an alarm from equipment over a dial-up or IP connection as an ASCII text message, convert it to an SNMP trap and forward it to an SNMP management system. It is an ideal, cost effective solution for integrating any legacy equipment that you have on your network into an IP-based SNMP management system.
Although commonly used in data networks, SNMP does not use an acknowledgement for received messages, i.e. it sends an alarm and assumes it will arrive. For many applications, particularly those using dial-up connectivity, this may not be reliable. You can set Eclipse AMC to acknowledge alarms, thus providing you with a more robust solution.
